Renee Braunsdorf, MSW,RYT; Instructor

Promoting health and healing – for herself and others – have always been central values in Renee’s life. After earning her Masters in Social Work from Florida State University, she practiced the art of psychotherapy for many years. Also, as an avid participant in numerous forms of physical exercise, Renee has always been cognizant of the importance of attending to the physical realm in promoting total health.

Despite the satisfactions of her work and her workouts, something was missing in her quest for a sense of peace and wellbeing. In the summer of 2004, she attended her first yoga class and was immediately impressed with yoga’s comprehensive attention to the development of the whole person – the physical, the emotional, and the spiritual. It was through her yoga practice and teacher training that Renee first experienced the profound peace that can occur through the connection of mind, body, and spirit in asana practice, breath work, and yogic teachings.

Renee strives to maintain a consistent yoga practice on and off the mat, and has been teaching since 2007. She is a graduate of Kim Valeri’s YOGAspirit Studios 200 hour teacher training program. She has also studied Vinyasa, Tantra Hatha Yoga, Anusara, Power Yoga, Yoga Tune Up, and Sanskrit with Seane corn, Kitty Moore, Anne Greene and Todd Norian, Rolf Gates, Jill Miller, Sadie Nardini and Manorama. In June 2009, she receive her certification to teach seniors from the Lotus Gardens Yoga Teacher Training Program. She teaches chair and standing yoga to seniors at Pond Ridge Assisted Living Program in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Renee’s true passion is to use her yoga teacher training to help combat veterans. She became certified in October 2009 as a Yoga Warrior instructor in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and The Mind-Body connection from the Central Mass Yoga Institute with Lucy Cimini.

Renee’s classes are eclectic, drawing from many different yogic styles. She believes in building a bridge between the practice on the mat and daily life. Renee designs her classes to be a balance of hard work and playfulness. Renee@BloomIntoYoga.com

She found that yoga helped ease the aches and pains of her dancer body and provided a quiet space in her hectic schedule. After only a few classes, she knew she had to share her love of yoga through teaching. Soon after, she began studying under the instruction of Barbara Ruzansky at West Hartford Yoga, where she currently continues her journey to practice, understand, and share yoga with others. Bloom Class Descriptions

Bloom Yoga classes are tailored for all levels of practitioners. We offer many posture options, focus on alignment, and breath awareness. All Classes are a rich blend of many yogic styles and flow through a balanced,
graceful posture series.

Bloom Beginners – The perfect place to start if you are brand new to yoga.  Focus will be on the benefits of yoga and instruction in basic postures and breath awareness. This class allows new students to experience yoga in a safe and comfortable arena. Bloom Beginners is a great place to start your Bloom Yoga journey.

Bloom Level I – A  Hatha Flow class with a slower-paced flow than Bloom Level II. Postures are broken down and demonstrated. Our instructors will lead the class at a gentle pace with an emphasis on alignment and breath. During this interactive class, students are encouraged to ask questions and explore the postures at their own comfort level.

Bloom Level II – For students who are ready to take the next step in their practice, Bloom Level II exhilarates the body and mind with emphasis on movement, balance, and breath awareness. Our level II class offers a faster pace, along with a more challenging posture series, bringing students to a more advanced level of yoga. Some knowledge of posture alignment is recommended.

Bloom Restore - Bloom Restore leads the student through a flowing blend of Restorative and Gentle Yoga, supported poses, and guided meditation. Poses are chosen for ease, comfort, and overall maximum health benefit and relaxation. Stability and balance are facilitated through the use of supportive bolsters, straps, and blankets. Individual student attention, achievement, and relaxation are emphasized.

Bloom Sculpt – A total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Dumbbells are incorporated in this class as students are guided through a vigorous series of postures intended to reshape muscles and promote a cleansing sweat. This intense, but easy-to-follow program complements your regular yoga practice while pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights.

Bloom All Levels – Designed to accommodate students of all levels. During this class, various options are given allowing the practitioner to move at their own pace and comfort level. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, Bloom All Levels is a great class to add to your practice.

Bloom Fusion- Blends the introspective nature of Yin Yoga, the strengthening benefits of a flow sequence, and the healing qualities of Restorative Yoga. The weaving of these three styles of yoga help create a space for you to go deeper into your own personal experiences, provide support for you to reduce stress, foster mental and physical healing and wellbeing, and bring the body and mind into balance. The class begins with 15 minutes of Yin Yoga, 30 minutes of Flow Yoga, and concludes with 15 minutes of Restorative Yoga followed by a supported savasana. This is an All Levels class.

Blooming Bellies – A comprehensive Prenatal Yoga class to prepare women physically, mentally, and emotionally for the natural process of childbirth and motherhood. Classes increase strength, stamina, flexibility, as well as breath and body awareness while relieving the common discomforts often experienced during pregnancy. Each class concludes with 10 minutes of Yoga Nidra – a deeply transcendental form of relaxation with the potential to remove tensions and worries embedded deep in the mind concerning labor and delivery. Prenatal students should check with their physician before beginning this practice if they are experiencing any complications/concerns with their pregnancy. Blooming Bellies is a beautiful way to Bloom into motherhood.

Chair Yoga- A gentle, yet invigorating form of yoga offering students the chance to improve strength, flexibility, circulation, and overall relaxation.  Students of all ages and levels will get to know many kinds of yoga postures and breathing techniques all while sitting or standing with the support of a chair.  While poses are adaptations of Hatha Yoga, complicated and strenuous movements are not a part of this class.  Chair Yoga can help prevent muscle loss, improve joint stability, and diminish pain and stiffness for those not otherwise able to participate in more strenuous physical activities.  Each 60 minute class generally begins with gentle stretching and relaxation, transitions into posture and breathing practice, and concludes with a centering meditation and cool down period. Students can expect to feel rejuvenated, empowered, and grounded after each class.  * Please note: Our studio is located on the second floor so students must use the stairs in order to access this class.

Gentle Yoga- An all levels class where students explore basic yoga postures and breathing techniques in a stress-free, non-competitive, and supportive environment.  Classes flow at a relaxed pace.  Movements are slow but deliberate, and stretching is emphasized.  Gentle Yoga is an invitation to relax, breathe, feel, and let go.   It embraces the consciousness of moment-to-moment awareness and calms the mind.  This practice supports the immune system, offers comfort to muscles, joints, and bones, and enhances overall feelings of health and wellbeing.  Each student is accommodated where they are.  Stability and balance are facilitated through the use of support props and individual student attention. No prior experience is necessary. * Please note: Our studio is located on the second floor so students must use the stairs to access this class.

About Yoga

So what is Yoga, anyway?

5,000 years ago, in the heart of India, the practice of Yoga mysteriously emerged. The exact origins of Yoga have not been determined, though its evolution can be traced across thousands of years, developing throughout India and eventually spreading to the West in the late 1800s – unfolding into Yoga as we know it today.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj which means to yoke or to unite. This idea of yoking together, or uniting, refers to the integration of the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga allows this integration to occur through the use of physical postures and breath control.

Why practice yoga?

  • It completely detoxifies the body and boosts the immune system
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Slows the aging process
  • Increases energy
  • Reduces stress and promotes well-being
  • Improves strength, flexibility, balance and coordination
  • Improves the body’s ability to prevent disease by massaging internal organs
  • Improves muscle tone
  • Reduces insomnia and improves sleep
  • Improves memory and concentration
  • Lowers cholesterol levels
